3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheeler is ideal for tackling off-road terrain providing an easy ride for your child. They are also easier to move and push than a four-wheeler, particularly those with fabric sling seats or seats that are set perfectly within the frame, providing the best ergonomics and weight distribution.
Stability
A three-wheeled buggy offers excellent stability, which is why it's a good choice for off road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat). These types of buggys typically have large front tires that are able to handle bumps, kerbs, and rough terrain. Some models have a lockable wheel on the front to provide additional stability when driving on uneven terrain.
It's important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies can have a lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled models which means that they topple over more easily. The best 3-wheeled pushchairs are built with the perfect geometry to ensure they remain solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn at a whim and be able to be controlled with one hand. They also have the ability to rotate 360o on the front wheel which makes them ideal for navigating difficult terrain.
For surfaces that are extremely challenging you should look for a model with air-filled tyres which are also referred to as pneumatic tyres. They are designed to work on roads that are not paved and can deal with rocks, mud, etc. A majority of all-terrain buggies come with a swivelling front wheel that can be locked to provide stability when dealing with extremely rough ground too.
A 3-wheel pram is also a good option for runners or those who like to walk quickly and uphill, particularly if you're planning to attach an infant car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It features an incline-reclining seat that is flat, with a 5-point harness, and plenty of storage space for everything you need (plus a 50+ extendable sun hood). It's light, compact and suitable for babies and can be used with a carrycot or car seat. It can also be used for jogging with a light pace, however, it isn't designed for serious runners.
Weight
If you're looking for a buggy that can handle the tough terrain, then you'll need one with big wheels. They can handle cobbles, grass, and dirt tracks and provide a smooth ride for any passenger. 3 wheeled pushchair are also great for jogging as they're equipped with suspension and are easy to get up and down kerbs. However, the downside is that they can be quite heavy to push.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy is very maneuverable because it has 16 rear wheels as well as the front wheel can be locked. It comes with tyres filled with air which require pumping regularly. It can carry children as young as the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the design of the seat and found it easy to steer with her three-year-old child on the board.
The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another great option. It comes with an adjustable handlebar, a high-quality hood that offers 50+ UV protection and an extremely high-quality hood. It's also easy to move up and down kerbs, and it can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram, with baby car seat for infants and toddlers.
Fabric sling seats are tucked within the frame of the buggie rather than over it like modular seats. This design has a lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you can never underestimate how often you'll do this as a new parent!)
Seating
The capacity for seating of 3 wheelers is quite impressive and there are many different options to choose from. The carrycot included is ideal for a baby (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfy and cozy lying-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy). Older babies and toddlers will appreciate the large and comfortable seat with adjustable ventilation. The seats don't recline completely, but can be adjusted to the lowest point. This should still allow your child to have plenty of room and headroom.
A sling seat made of fabric is also available, which offers the advantage of being positioned snugly inside the frame rather than on top like an open-back seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity as well as a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier and lighter to push, especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath loved the way this kind of seat negotiated these challenges.
This type of buggy has an extensive basket and other useful features such as an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal and a few innovative lights for visibility that can be placed in front of occupants to ensure safety when riding on rough terrain.
If you're searching for a stroller that will grow with your family The sport(tm), a world-first, can accommodate a newborn and then be adapted to accommodate three or four children as they grow. All within one footprint.

Storage
The 3-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and stable to push one handed and is also ideal for handling difficult terrain. However, it also means that the shopping basket can't hold the same amount as a 4-wheeled buggy.
A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for added comfort, and a superb suspension. It will accommodate a car seat, so you can use it from birth.
MFM's reviewers discovered that the 3-wheeler frames couldn't fit through their home doors or car boot. If you're concerned about space, be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded before purchasing.
It's worth looking for a 3-wheeler that can take two (or even 3!) This is the most suitable option for your child's future and will save you money. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the most popular and can be used as a single from day dot and then converts to a twin buggies when your baby begins walking.
Tyres
Air filled tyres are designed to provide your child with a more comfortable ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They're commonly found on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an amazing ride for my toddler". She also mentioned that the grippy tyres on the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to navigate the kerbs and other obstacles.
These tyres can be difficult to maintain and will require air pressure topped up regularly. These tyres are prone to punctures, which is why you should always carry a repair kit and spare inner tube with you when you're out and about.
PU tyres are more commonly found on pushchairs as they are a cheaper option than air-filled tyres but are just as durable. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide well on uneven and tied surfaces.
If you move your hand over the tyres you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it is sliding then it's a PU. You can also determine whether your buggy comes with PU tyres sliding them across an even, smooth surface. They should roll smoothly and fit comfortably into wheel hubs.
Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. The drawback is that the foam may shrink and make your buggy feel less stable, since it loses its springy quality. These tyres also make a lot of noise due to the fact that they create a lot noise when you turn or drive around the town.
